Checking the site for missing or orphan files

A file referenced on a site page can be missing or orphaned. A missing file () can't be found, possibly because you have renamed it or used your system desktop rather than Adobe GoLive to move it. An orphan file () can be found locally, but outside the root folder.

To find and relink a missing file:

1 Select the file in the Missing Files list in the Errors tab.

2 Do any of the following to get information that may help you find the file:

  • Check the Files tab to see if the file is listed there under a new name. (If it is, relink the renamed file.)
  • Check the Errors tab or Error Inspector for information about the file--for example, its original URL.
  • Choose Window > In & Out Links to determine what pages reference the file.

  • 3 Find the file. For information, see Searching.

4 Drag the file to its original location in the Files tab (root folder).

5 Click OK in the Move Files dialog box to update hyperlinks or file references in the file.

To relink a renamed file identified as missing:

1 Select the previous name of the file in the Missing Files list in the Errors tab.

2 Display the In & Out Links palette or the Inspector.

3 Identify the file by its new name in the Files tab.

4 Drag from the point-and-shoot button in the Link View or Error Inspector to the icon of the renamed file in the Files tab. (If you use the Error Inspector, you can also type the URL of the file.)

5 Click OK in the Change Reference dialog box. This replaces the old filename with the new one in all references to the file.

To copy an orphan file to the root folder:

Drag the file from the Orphan list in the Errors tab to the Files tab. (This copies the file from its original location to the root folder and deletes the entry for the file in the Orphan list.) Clearing the site also moves orphan files to the root folder. For information, see Cleaning up the site.
